It Only Takes a Spark (plug) to get a fire going…

Getting 310 horses to break into a gallop on command is easy. All it takes is a reliable spark to get that fire going.

Not long ago, I found myself on a short, rough airstrip with a deep ravine as you approach and depart. To make matters worse, it was a hot day in the mountains of Guatemala. With passengers, luggage, and cargo in place, SGSP Aviation Ministries was ready to go. But first, I took time for calculating takeoff distance once more just to be sure. As pilot-in-charge (PIC), I factored in aircraft configuration, load, and weather. The numbers told me to expect an enthusiastic takeoff from that harsh mountain strip. Applying full power, the turbo-charged engine let loose all 310 ponies. All cylinders fired, producing massive power to accelerate and take flight. On this day, all went as expected with power to spare. On another day, just one spark plug failing could severely reduce available power and the result would be a different story.

Next month, preparation begins for an annual inspection of our Cessna T206H serving in the western highlands of Guatemala. Our current set of spark plugs are near the end of their service life. These spark plugs cost about $116.75/ea. and this aircraft needs 12. This is a great opportunity to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty supporting missions through aviation. Help keep SGSP Aviation Ministries (Chuck & Robin) safely serving and flying. When you make your check payable to SGSP Aviation Ministries, annotate “Spark Plugs” on the memo line.
