Brought Out Into the Light

Easily forgettable, this pit is covered and at the back of our house, where we rarely walk. The connections lay submerges for who knows how long. A fellow missionary appeared with a submersible pump and in minutes the water was under control.

Everything seemed okay, it had been months since we move to a new residence in Quetzaltenango. Most of our belongings were out of boxes, the furniture had been arrange, and re-arranged. We had slowly become accustom to the sounds and personality quirks of our new home. It was the very last of the dry season, the grass was mostly brown, except in one area. Out back there is a 4 foot square metal cap over a pit that serves as the connecting point for all utilities to our home. There were hints that something was out of order, the unseasonably green grass around the pit should have been the giveaway. A campus workman noticed this and pointed it out.

So, removing the cap, we discovered electrical, plumbing, and telephone connections that were submerged, and likely for some time. A water pipe had ruptured and well, the picture speaks for itself. This discovery illuminated the reason why we were experiencing flakey electric, crackly telephone, and unpredictable water pressure. With the water pipe repaired, the symptoms simply, disappeared. Mmm, this could preach!

After this little drama was resolved, it occurred to me that “flakey” symptoms, can and do, manifest in our natural life, especially when our “Spiritual’ life is out of order. Critical “Spiritual” connections become capped-over and hidden by layers of busyness, trivial pursuits, and distractions of every kind. Hidden under these layers, Spiritual connections become corroded and fail, unless regularly brought out into the light. How is your connection to God? Solid and strong or languishing, (under water), and in the dark?

Don’t forget, Chuck & Robin will be visiting the U.S. beginning mid-May 2018. As missionaries we are also connected to each of you, our faithful supporters……..we are, in effect, extensions of your hands and feet on the mission field of Guatemala.

Now would be a good time for a financial boost! It’s important that we have sufficient means for rental cars, meals, daily needs as we move about stateside for this short season…………..but that’s another story.
